Adjustable Back Cushions for Superior Comfort
Select from eight unique pressure management back cushions, tailor-made to adapt to an individual's evolving needs or to be easily adjusted for another user, ensuring prolonged usability.
Moreover, each cushion can be tweaked to match a user's distinct seating desires. Adjust the cushion's density by adding or removing fibres. Plus, their covers are easily removable for cleaning or replacement.
Back Cushion Options
Waterfall
Adjust each layer of this fibre-filled cushion to attain optimal postural backing. A top pick for individuals with conditions like mild Kyphosis, Scoliosis, or diminished back muscle density.
Waterfall Lateral
This cushion, embedded with a central fibre-filled layer, offers added lateral supports. It's especially suited for those with limited trunk balance like early-stage MS patients or Stroke survivors with minor impairments.
Large Profile Headrest With Waterfall
A uniquely molded headrest aligns seamlessly with the user's head and shoulders, especially beneficial for those with restrained neck mobility. The waterfall back further offers adaptable lumbar reinforcement.
Comfort Lateral
A plush fibre-filled cushion equipped with lateral support, making it a solid choice for individuals with limited trunk balance, including early-stage neurological condition sufferers or Stroke survivors.
Large Profile Headrest With Comfort Lateral
This cushion presents soft fibre-filled segments providing comprehensive support for the head, shoulder, and trunk. A fitting choice for elderly individuals with diminished muscle control, it aids in maintaining neutral head alignment and is also apt for those in the initial stages of neurological conditions.
Support Lateral
A combination of firm foam and a plush, fibre-filled headrest offers the user robust lateral and head support. A preferred option for post-Stroke individuals or those progressing through early to mid-stages of neurological disorders.
Large Profile Headrest With Support Lateral
Integrating firm lateral support with a soft, moulded headrest, this cushion caters to those needing trunk stability. The specially designed headrest ensures proper head alignment, apt for early-stage MS sufferers or Stroke survivors with some impairments.
Double Comfort Lateral
Deep-set contoured cushions provide heightened lateral support, making seating more comfortable and well-positioned. Especially crafted for those with painful conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis or Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, as well as neurological challenges. Additionally, this cushion is a valuable asset in palliative care, assisting individuals with critical conditions.
The Boston Porter Express boasts a selection of six seat cushions, each tailored with specialised pressure management attributes. Every cushion is designed for easy removal and interchangeability, allowing flexibility based on individual requirements.
Whether it's for one person or multiple users, you can buy any number of these cushions. All are designed with easy-to-remove covers for effortless cleaning or replacement.
Viscoform Cushion
Ideal for individuals who maintain good posture and mobility but need pressure alleviation when seated for prolonged periods. This cushion combines a resilient foam base for support with a memory foam top layer, ensuring both stability and expansive surface area for minimized pressure points.
Foamaform Cushion
Tailored for those who possess strong core stability and posture. If seated for extended periods and seeking moderate pressure relief along with optimal comfort, this cushion's multiple layers of dense foam are your best bet. It guarantees support, substantial surface area, pressure mitigation, and unmatched comfort.
Celliform Cushion
Designed specifically for individuals seated for extended durations and facing unique comfort challenges like a high susceptibility to pressure ulcers. The distinctive Gelacell matrix evenly disperses pressure, adjusting to weight shifts. It's adept at absorbing body heat, mitigating the likelihood of an environment conducive to pressure risks, and its design promotes air circulation. Dermatologically approved for skin contact.
User weight limit: 127 kg (20 stone)
Liquiform Cushion
Perfect for those with commendable posture and mobility, especially if they're seated for considerable timeframes. This cushion is particularly recommended for those with limited muscle mass or those at risk of excessive weight loss. A dense foam provides the required support, topped with a fluid gel encased in a pliable silicone layer for enhanced pressure relief. This gel is dynamic, adjusting to user movements while also dissipating heat.
Coolform Cushion
For individuals who remain seated over long durations and have distinct comfort needs such as a heightened risk of pressure sores, this cushion is a lifesaver. Harnessing advanced medical-grade silicone gel technology, it ensures even pressure distribution. The gel adapts to body contours and temperature. Thanks to the gel cells, air circulation is effortless, and the Coolform is both odour-free and hypoallergenic.
Both the electric and manual variants of the Boston have consistent features. However, the electric model is distinguished by its standard rechargeable battery and an operational handset controlling the chair's principal functionalities:
Independent Tilt In Space (TIS)
The Independent Tilt in Space effectively mitigates the impact of an individual’s pannus. With the ability to modify the tilt's angle, one can balance the person's centre of gravity. This offers enhanced comfort, supports the pannus, and minimizes sensations of being pulled forward by outside influences.
With the TIS functionality, the angle between the seat and back remains consistent even as the entire seat system inclines backward. This ensures that the hip, knee, and ankle angles remain unchanged throughout the motion. This feature lightens the load on the Ischial Tuberosities and shifts the weight more towards the back. The unchanging back angle safeguards against shear and friction when moving.
Additionally, the TIS proves beneficial when transferring someone using a hoist, and it further aids in achieving improved pelvic alignment, utilizing gravity to secure the user in an ideal posture.
Independent Backrest Recline
The Independent Backrest Recline grants individuals the autonomy to determine their body's orientation, especially in terms of hip flexion. This fosters greater comfort while also addressing health considerations. This standout function lets the user alter the TIS angle as they wish.
The backrest's inclination can be tailored, offering various angles to attain the most comforting posture. The angle spectrum spans from 108 to 165 degrees. Alongside the Independent Leg Rest adjustment, positions inclusive of the Trendelenburg posture are feasible.
Independent Leg Rest Adjustment
The Boston's leg rest is thoughtfully extended to ensure optimal leg positioning. Its subtle profile design minimises chances of legs slipping off the rest and reduces potential hazards like leg-crossing.
The angle of the leg rest can be autonomously adjusted, rotating up to 90° from its default position. Do note, for the manual variant, leg rest modifications can be done using the side lever, as depicted.
Footplate with Adjustable Angle
Seat Depth Adjustment
The Boston chair provides an option for seat depth tailoring with two removable adjuster pad sets available: 25.4mm (1”) and 50.8mm (2”). You can purchase multiple pairs based on your needs. Additionally, their covers can be taken off for maintenance or replacement.
A well-adjusted seat depth ensures that the user's upper legs are properly supported while the back sits snugly against the backrest. A seat that's too lengthy can lead to the user slouching, adding undue pressure on their lumbar region. Conversely, a shorter seat might increase pressure on the thighs, which can lead to skin issues.
Height and Angle Adjustable Footplate
This footplate comes with customisable height and angle settings for diverse support options. It's also designed for seamless interactions with a hoist, given its removable nature or its ability to flip upwards. Cleaning or replacing the footplate's cover is straightforward.
Wedge Adjustment Blockers
These are compatible with all our Boston chair's back cushions. These wedges slide behind the cushions, granting caregivers the ability to modify support levels in tune with a user’s evolving requirements. They come in depths of 50.8mm (2”) and 76.2mm (3”). Their covers, too, are removable for cleaning or replacing.
Soft Detachable Footrest Cushion
This cushion can be effortlessly attached to the footplate, offering the user plush and extended cushioning support. It's available in three depths – 25.4mm, 50.8mm, and 76.2mm (1”, 2”, and 3”). Cleaning or replacing the covers is easy.
Lap Strap and Pad
This available lap belt can be adapted in length and features a quick-release mechanism. However, please note that this is intended as a lap belt and not a pelvic positioning tool. It's not designed for restraint.
Headrest Options
Select from five distinct headrest styles, each equipped with a Velcro tab for easy attachment over the top cushions:

Prompt order confirmation & delivery
I purchased one on behalf of my mother who is 80 and has severe rheumatoid arthritis. It is far lighter, a smoother ride and more manoeuvrable than her previous rollator, but feels robust and well made. She loves it. It arrived quickly and well packaged.
Excellent, comfortable cushion definately well worth the money.
Brilliant service quick delivery would definitely use them again
We needed something better than the fixed wall changing table when we moved to a new and adapted house. This was researched well before purchase and we are confident this is the right one for our use. It works particularly well and is very versatile. Only time will tell about its durability. I would recommend it.
A quality product, well and carefully delivered as promised.
Thank you Haydon for your attention to detail.
